Biography

Matt is a civil engineer with twenty-five years’ experience specialising in coastal geomorphology, hazard assessment and active coastal management. He has played a substantial role in coastal evaluation, planning and coastal hazard management for townsites and major port facilities, including Karratha, Port Hedland, Exmouth, Ashburton North, Barrow Island, Cape Preston, Broome, Thevenard Island, Carnarvon, Bunbury and Busselton. Key activities have included evaluation of erosion and flood hazard, determination of hazard mitigation works and development of active management plans In 2013, Matt was invited as an international contributor to the UK ICOASST consortium, due to his demonstrated application of geomorphic principles to assessment of coastal change. In 2018, Matt was nominated by the Australian Government to the United Nations’ World Ocean Assessment II for his technical expertise in erosion, sedimentation and coastal protection.
